This volume of landscape was created by Wang Yuanqi according to the meaning of Lu Hong’s “Ten Records of the Thatched Cottage” in the Tang Dynasty, imitating the brushwork of the Song and Yuan Dynasties. Lu Hong’s original work has long been lost, but there is still a temporary copy of the Song Dynasty, which is very different from this book. It is the work of the painter who imitates his ideas rather than his tracks. This book has no record of years. With the vigor of the brush, it should be the work of the artist in his later years. The ten-page painting is composed of six colors and ink brushes. The color and ink are applied simultaneously. It is an integral whole. It is clear and beautiful with the color and thickness. It is the characteristic formed by the painter’s lifelong efforts. In his later years, he had asked to return to his hometown and was repeatedly retained by Emperor Kangxi. It is inevitable that he had the idea of “living in the Wei Que and thinking about the Jianghu”. This album seems to be a portrayal of the helpless mood of admiring the hermit of the former sages, and is his representative work in his later years
