[Vajranghai Mother Thangka]
Vajranghai Mother Thangka, Qing Dynasty, 34.5 cm long, 23.8 cm horizontal. The image of Vajrayana has two main forms of expression, that is, single figure and double figure. This Thangka is the Vajrayana of single figure. Haimu has a red body and a brown pig head on the right side of her head, which is an important symbol to identify this statue. Her left hand holds a gabala bowl full of blood, which symbolizes that she has obtained the experience of bliss and has achieved success in her career. The left arm holds the Kazhangga, with a skeleton, a dry human head and a fresh human head on the top, which symbolizes that she has overcome the intrusion of greed, anger and ignorance. The right hand is raised with the axe knife, which symbolizes the removal of all human ignorance and calls for wisdom and truth. Single-legged dance posture with left leg, trampling on human body, means to defeat external enemies
There is a white silk label on the back of the Thangka. The inscription is written in four-body Chinese characters of Han, Manchu, Mongolian and Tibetan. The Chinese text is: “On December 24, the emperor ordered the painting of Buddha and Lama in the central hall to worship the benefit portrait of Vajrayana.” The fifty-third year of Qianlong was 1788. The Tibetan inscription is slightly different from the Chinese inscription, which translates as: “The Great Lama Chu Chen, painted in the central hall, worships the Thangka of Vajrayana.” The Tibetan inscription records the painter’s name, which is very valuable.
