[Fei Danxu’s Fuzhuang Zhiqi Image Volume]

Fuzhuang Zhiqi Image Volume, the 19th year of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty (1839), Fei Danxu’s painting, paper version, color setting, vertical 31 cm, horizontal 128.6 cm
The title of this painting is “Fu Zhuang repent Qi”, which refers to Yao Xie’s repentance of the past floating life. Yao Xie (1805-1864), known as Meibo, Fuzhuang, Dameishan, Zhenhai, Zhejiang, is a famous poet in the Daoguang and Xianfeng periods of the Qing Dynasty. This painting depicts the life scene of Yao Xie and his concubines. The man sitting on the top of the futun in the middle is Yao Xie, who smiles happily and seems to understand. Surrounded by 12 concubines, the whole work is elegant in style. The author carefully portrays Yao Xie’s face, outlines the outline with light ink, and then bakes it with ochre, trying to show the light and dark concave-convex feeling, with a realistic portrait effect. The beautiful women in the picture are represented by thin, flexible lines and elegant colors, which are not realistic, showing the typical style of the author’s beautiful women paintings.
