This self-identification: “The smoke floats in the distant mountains. Ding Mao imitated the giant pen on the 8th of December. Wang Hui, the son of Shigu in Haiyu.”
The white seal of “Wang Huizhi” and “Shigu” are stamped below. It also collects and prints three parties: Bai Wenyin of “Wang Zaoru’s book collection”, Bai Wenyin of “Yu Ting Wu Yun’s approval”, and Zhu Wenyin of “Lu Puye’s entertainment for the elderly”. The seal on the edge is printed in four directions: Zhu Wenyin of “Pavilion Collection”, Zhu Wenyin of “Fu Rongjiang Pavilion”, Bai Wenyin of “Yu Ting Wu Yun Approval”, and Bai Wenyin of “Baiyun Private Seal”. There is Li Ruiqing’s paper at the bottom
“Ding Mao” was born in the 26th year of the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1687), and Wang Hui was 56 years old
This picture is based on the vertical composition, and the small alum head is made at the top of the mountain, which adds a subtle charm to the majestic mountains. The dense jungle in the valley adds life to the vast mountains. The Zhongshan stone in the picture is rubbed with large linen, and its clear and elegant lines create a misty artistic conception of the picture
This picture is one of the representative works of Wang Hui in his late years, imitating Song Juran’s “The Painting of Smoke Floating in the Far Mountains”. According to the title of the painting fan of the same name of Juran (now in the Palace Museum in Beijing), Wang Hui first saw Juran’s “The Painting of Smoke Floating in the Far Hills” at the age of 42 (Guichou, 1673). The title of the painting was: “Juran’s” The Painting of Smoke Floating in the Far Hills “is now in the imperial historian of Piling Villa, and is the first calligraphy treasure in the world. I try to borrow the view and look back. I send it to Mr. Wen Chuanzun.”, The signature “Gui Chou has gone up for a long time, and Shigu has seen it again.” Wang Hui has been imitating Juran’s “The Painting of Smoke Floating in the Far Mountains” since then, either entertaining himself or sending friends as souvenirs. The imitations he sent to Da Chongguang are currently in the art gallery of Princeton University in the United States.
