Single skin drum, short for single skin, is named after only one skin, also known as plate drum. The drum frame is made of thick and hard wood. When playing, the single-skin drum is hung in the air on a bamboo or wooden drum frame tied with a rope and hit with two drum sticks. During opera singing, clapping and single skin are used to create the eye. The clapping at the strong beat is “board”, and the single skin at the weak or sub-strong beat is “eye”. Single skin is used to nod the eyes and help the actors grasp the singing rhythm. Especially in Beijing opera, the long and tactful tone of Tsing Yi is inseparable from single skin. Therefore, Shan Pi plays a leading role in the opera accompaniment orchestra
