The Song Gully Music Picture Axis, made by Wu Li in the Qing Dynasty, is printed in silk and partially colored in ink, 103 cm vertically and 50.5 cm horizontally
The picture is the work of Wu Li in his middle age. He knows that: “I have been learning the piano with the celestial sphere for more than 20 years in the mountains, Mr. Chen. I want to write a picture of the song-and-gully zither to express my wishes, but I often suffer less time. In his youth, Wu Li and Ji Tianqiu learned the piano from Chen Min, a native of the same city. This picture is a nostalgic work. The picture shows that the strange peaks stand up, the streams and springs splash down, and the three men sit in the grass pavilion in the valley. One of them plucks the strings, which is a portrayal of Chen’s piano learning at that time. The high rock splashes the waterfall, containing the high mountains and flowing water, and making friends. At that time, the painter had already lost his mother and wife, and was lonely in his heart. He had long wanted to become a monk because of nostalgia. The landscape painting method imitates Wang Meng of the Yuan Dynasty, and the ink is dark and beautiful. It is a middle-aged painter’s masterpiece.
