On one side of this fan is Jiang Tingxi’s plum and bamboo paintings. Most of Jiang’s works take on two kinds of features, one is ink, small freehand brushwork flowers and birds with light colors, and the other is meticulous style with fine brushwork and thick colors. This picture is the latter, with fine strokes and beautiful colors, which is very rich in the royal elegance. On the other side is the book of Emperor Kangxi’s Lin Mi Fu. The content of the book is from Li Qu’s “Celebrating the Spring Snow on the Day of Tribute Testing Scholars in the Metropolitan Hall”. The text reads: “Xi Rui comes to the age of Feng, and Jingxian enters the tribute. Shake the light plum and laugh together, and fly the weak willow and spring. Wrap around the stone chips, and spray the jade dust according to the steps. The ephemera fly sings more incisively, and the imperial battle reflects the new. It is difficult to distinguish the crane and the vellus, and it is easy to judge the truth by curling the kettle. Because of the great virtue of the emperor, lead the dance to chant Tao Jun. Lin Mi Fu Yuan Zhang.”
The introduction seal “Pei Wen Zhai” white rectangle, The rear seal is “Kangxi Chenhan” white square, “Baohe Taihe” Zhu square. Emperor Kangxi’s calligraphy is mainly composed of Dong Qichang, who also studied various schools, and has a good foundation of calligraphy. This fan is written in running script with regular strokes and weak strokes, which should be his early practice
