This volume is based on Du Fu’s poetry and was drawn for his nephew Dong Xuxian. When Wang Shimin painted, he strongly advocated the restoration of the ancient method and opposed the creation of new ideas. He once confessed: “When you came to paint, the old method gradually disappeared, and many people created new ideas from themselves, and the fallacies spread, so the evil and deceit could not be saved.”, It also integrates Dong Yuan, Ju Ran and Wang Meng, and combines them into their own features. Compared with other works that simply imitate the ancient, it shows a rare vividness and randomness
The atlas is twelve, with two lines of Du Fu’s poems in each official script. Among them, the first one is “blue water falls far from a thousand streams, and the Jade Mountain is high and cold with two peaks”. The small green is used to write the summer scenery, and the small panoramic composition is slightly similar to that of the Song Dynasty. The cliffs stand on the wall, the luxuriant trees are covered with green cages, and the waterfalls fall straight. The close view is of long pines and green bamboos. A fisherman comes back from boating in the stream. The negative net goes along the mountain path to the two tiled houses looming in the valley. The scenery is beautiful and beautiful. The second is to open “the twilight of Baisha Cuizhujiang Village, and send the new moon to Chaimen.” The painting shows that the twilight is hazy, the crescent moon is like a hook, and the peaks, flat lakes, and lush bamboos are covered by thin clouds and mist. Linxi Thatched Cottage, two friends in front of the firewood gate said goodbye, and the mood was deep and quiet. The whole picture is painted with wet pen. It is green, rich and beautiful. The poems and paintings are corresponding, considerable, tourable and habitable
This volume was written in the second year of Kangxi’s reign (1665), when Wang Shimin was 74 years old. It reflects his relatively comprehensive creative quality and landscape painting skills. Compared with his common works, it has a lot of changes, and is the perfect work in his later years.
