[Blue and white three sheep bowl]
Blue and white three sheep bowl, Ming Jiajing, 10.5 cm high, 16.3 cm caliber, 5.5 cm foot diameter, old collection of the Forbidden City
This bowl is a palace porcelain fired by the Jingdezhen imperial kiln during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. The bowl is in the shape of a bell, and the inside and outside are decorated with blue and white. The center of the bowl is painted with unicorn, supplemented by pine, stone and flowers. Brocade patterns are painted near the rim of the bowl. The outer wall is painted with three sheep with different attitudes. One sheep stands on the front, one sheep walks on the side, and one sheep looks back. Three sheep are lined with pine, bamboo, plum, willow and plantain. The blue and white “made in Jiajing of the Ming Dynasty” six-character double-line money is printed on the outsole, and the outer circle is double
The white glaze applied to this bowl is bright and green, and the blue and white hair color is thick and gorgeous. The green material used should be the “green” popular in the Jiajing Dynasty. The painted pattern of three sheep is auspicious, which means “three sheep are prosperous”. “Sanyang Kaitai” is a homonym for “Sanyang Kaitai”. “Sanyang Kaitai” originally means the “Tai” divination in the Book of Changes. It is the most auspicious divination. It starts with the “Tai” divination, like “0523”. Its meaning is auspicious because it means “heaven and earth are connected with all kinds of people, and the upper and lower parts are connected with the same purpose.”
