The outer wall has six circular openers, with three dragons and three phoenixes carved in color paint. The openers are carved with square brocade patterns, with silver ingots, round coins, coral, Ruyi, Fangsheng and other miscellaneous treasure patterns on the top. The near foot is a circle of lotus petal patterns, and the outer wall of the circle foot is carved with red paint echo patterns. The inside of the bowl and the inside of the foot are painted with black paint, and the bottom center is vertically engraved with six characters of gold regular script “made in Jiajing of the Ming Dynasty”
There are imitations of this bowl in the Qianlong period. The size, pattern and color are all imitated, but they can still be distinguished from the quality, color and carving of the lacquer. The quality of Jiajing carved paint is stagnant, the paint color is gray and not fresh, and the knife work is slightly rough; The Qianlong imitation paint is warm and moist, with pure color, especially the bright red paint. The knife is sharp and accurate, and the edges are clear and powerful. The knife is like a pen. Compared with Qianlong carved lacquer, Jiajing’s lacquer color and knife work were inferior
