[Huangdi Hongcai Lianwen gourd bottle]
Huangdi Hongcai Lianwen gourd bottle, 45.1 cm high, 5.1 cm caliber, 13.4 cm foot diameter
The bottle is calabash shaped, small in the top and large in the bottom, straight in the mouth, shoulder-slipping, waist girdling, double drum belly, and round feet. The whole body is decorated with yellow glaze and red color, with a cloud pattern at the mouth. The upper and lower sections of the theme decoration are painted with tangled lotus flowers, four at the top and two at the bottom. The waist is painted with tangled ganoderma lucidum patterns. There are six string patterns from top to bottom, and the patterns are divided into five layers. The method is to first burn the yellow glaze and dark flowers, and then paint the ground with alum red color to show the yellow theme pattern, and the color contrast is gorgeous. This “yellow and red” technique was used exclusively during the Jiajing period, and there are few imitations in later generations. This bottle has six characters with a white ground, blue and white double circle inside the book “made in Jiajing of the Ming Dynasty”
During the Jiajing period, various gourd bottles were fired in various styles, including large, small, square, round, upper and lower ones. This is one of them. This vase is large, regular, colorful, and beautifully patterned. It is a representative work of large-scale carving in the Jiajing period.
