Green space red double dragon pattern longevity plate, Ming Jiajing, height 4.2 cm, maximum width 25.9 cm
The plate is of silver ingot type, and the light in the plate follows the shape. The ground is dark green, and the pattern of double dragons holding treasure basin is carved in red lacquer. In the center of the plate, a treasure basin emerges from the sea water pattern, and in the basin, two lines of light curl diagonally, showing the four words “holy longevity”. Two dragons fly around the treasure basin. The edge of the plate is carved with twining flowers, the outer wall is carved with pine, bamboo and plum patterns, and the foot is carved with the horizontal pattern of the regular script “made in Jiajing of the Ming Dynasty”
The shape of this plate is a new one in the Jiajing period. The decorative patterns are elaborate and exquisite, and the words eulogizing the emperor are skillfully combined with the patterns of dragons and phoenixes. It is a work representing the typical style of Jiajing carved lacquer, and can be used as a reference for the dating of Jiajing carved lacquer.
