Open, shallow belly, flat bottom. There are ten famous people, some old and some young, in the picture of the water cup carved in the center of the plate, which can be compared with the words of “all the sages come to the end, the young and the young” in Wang Xizhi’s Preface to the Orchid Pavilion Collection. The inner wall of the plate is decorated with tortoise back brocade flower and bird patterns, and the outer wall is decorated with brocade flower patterns. The outer bottom is painted with black paint, and the left knife is engraved with gold “made in Jiajing of the Ming Dynasty” regular script
The painting is thick and has some grinding, but it is still far from the style of thick painting and round carving in the late Yuan and early Ming dynasties; The flower patterns on the outer wall are symmetrically distributed, so it should belong to the works of late Ming Dynasty
It is special to carve the gold filled Jiajing style on the left side of the bottom, and the multiple broken lines on the outsole are obviously not uniform and natural compared with the typical Ming Dynasty lacquerware. Considering that the records of the Qianlong Emperor’s order to re-paint the bottom and the inside of the lacquerware at the manufacturing office or Suzhou weaving office often appear in the archives of the Qing Dynasty, and combining with the above analysis, the style of this red disk should be added after the re-painting of the lacquer at the Qianlong Dynasty, but it is different from the “style” of the lacquerware at the manufacturing office
