The vertical wall is decorated with chrysanthemums, roses, camellias, peonies and pomegranates in turn in a clockwise direction. They are arranged in groups, with each other facing up. The box is painted with brown paint. The black paint on the outside seems to have been repainted for future generations. On the left, there is a regular script needle with the inscription of “Yongle Year System of the Ming Dynasty”
Yongle carved lacquer has been widely praised by scholars and scholars in the late Ming Dynasty because of its excellent paint, mellow and vigorous carving, and fine and clean grinding. For example, “The Chronicle of Longevity” said, “The Song Dynasty is the most precious place for the exquisite carving… The secret of Gai Qi lies in that the knife technique is mellow, the hidden edge is not exposed, the use of Zhu is extremely fresh, and the paint is solid and thick without crack. The landscape, pavilions, figures, birds and animals carved are all like pictures, which are excellent. In the Yuan Dynasty, Zhang Cheng and Yang Mao were also famous for this technique. The knife technique made by the Guochao Orchard Factory (the imperial workshop for making lacquerware in the imperial court during the Yongle Xuande period) is also fine, depending on the Song Dynasty.” The Spring and Autumn Dream Records said: “The system of the imperial palace was built in the former and later dynasties. The market was opened at four times every month. According to the change of merchants, it was called the inner market. Three times every month, it was called the outer market. However, the outer market was used by scholars and the common people. If rare treasures entered the Shang Dynasty, they would be extracted from the inner market, and then they would be made from the bronze ware of Xuande, the kiln ware of Chenghua, the lacquer of Yongle Orchard Factory, and the enamel of Jingtai Royal Workshop. The exquisite and ancient times, and the good people from all sides would also buy them at a high price in the inner market.” In addition, because of his love for Yongle lacquerware, the records of Emperor Qianlong’s order to engrave Yongle money on the newly made lacquerware were also left in the archives of the Qing Dynasty Manufacturing Office
