Pickled Camellia Disc, 4.5 cm in height and 32.2 cm in diameter
The disc is round, diffuse and shallow, and encircles the foot. The tray is full of camellias, two layers up and down, either hidden or exposed. A variety of flowers are carved on the wall. The sole of the foot is painted with yellow-brown paint, and one side is stitched with six characters of “Ming Yongle Year System”
Yellow lacquer is plain and pressed with vermilion lacquer pattern, which is one of the main characteristics of the early Ming Dynasty lacquerware with flowers as the theme. This plate is ancient and elegant, with thick paint, fine paint and pure color. Double-layer camellias, which pierce branches and cross stems, form their own chapters, which are complex but not disorderly, showing superb carving skills. In the early Ming Dynasty, there are very few handed down lacquerware with double-layer patterns. This plate is the best of the official lacquerware made in Yongle Dynasty.
