[Carving red the round box of Zhou Dunyi’s love lotus]

Carving red the round box of Zhou Dunyi’s love lotus, Ming Yongle, 10.8 cm high, 25.9 cm caliber. The old collection of the Qing Palace
Cane box section type, straight wall, flat bottom. Carved red paint pattern. In the covered carved waterside pavilion, an elderly man leans on the railing facing the water, holds a banana fan in his hand, and looks at the lotus in the water, which is the intention of Zhou Dunyi’s love for the lotus. The upper and lower walls of the box are carved with various flower patterns. There is a poem inscribed by Emperor Qianlong Renyin in the cover: “The lacquer has been admonished by ten people, and the carving has been made known for three generations. When the Chinese people return to Puzuos, the flowers are old to Lianxi, and the picture is a gentleman’s speech. The cloud works and implements the art, and the ancient meaning is still appropriate.” The two seals of “ancient rare emperor” and “still working hard” are stamped below
Zhou Dunyi (1017-1073), Mao Shu, Lianxi, is a famous philosopher of the Northern Song Dynasty. In his “Love Lotus Saying”, it is a famous saying that “come out of the mud without being stained, wash the green ripples without being evil, keep the middle straight and the outside straight, and do not grow branches; the fragrance is far and clear, and the pavilions are clean and planted; it can be seen from afar, but not profane”.
