Woodcarving painted Avalokitesvara head

[Woodcarving painted Avalokitesvara Avalokitesvara head]

Woodcarving painted Avalokitesvara head, bright, 142 cm high, 60 cm wide and 61 cm thick
Bodhisattva wears a treasure crown, in which the Buddha is transformed into a symbol of Avalokitesvara. Guanyin has dignified features, eyes slightly open, thick lips closed, and a look of compassion for the world. The carving techniques of square face and circular eye socket are typical of the middle and late Ming Dynasty. It is generally believed that Guanyin was male in the early stage of Buddhism’s introduction into Central China, and mostly neutral in the middle stage, and gradually evolved into female in the Ming and Qing dynasties. The upper lip and lower jaw of this image are painted with whiskers, indicating that they are still male.
