Fan page of the reed boat flute singing picture, Ming Dynasty, painted by Cheng Jiasui, gold paper, colored, 16.5cm long, 51.2cm horizontal
The fan page has its own title: “Chongzhen Zimao painted in August for the brother of Yuangong Ci. Meng Yang.” The seal of “Meng Yang” is Zhu Wenyin. “Jimao” is the 12th year of Chongzhen in the Ming Dynasty (1639), when Cheng Jiasui was 75 years old
The picture depicts the scene of Gao Shi traveling in Lutang by canopies. This picture uses a large blank space to show the water and the sky and the vast rivers, giving people a broad view. The hills in the distance are painted with fresh and evacuating ink, which is quite like Huang Gongwang’s pen. The image of Gao Shi playing flute leisurely in the picture adds a bit of romantic interest to the painting, and also shows the artist’s skillful character modeling skills and quiet and elegant mind
