[Ming Tuo Warring States Stone Drum Album]
The stone drum, also known as “hunting tablet”, is the earliest extant inscription in China. It is named after being carved into a drum shape from 10 hard granite blocks. These drum-shaped stones are carved with seal characters, which are called stone drum characters
There have been different opinions about the carving age of stone drums. Wang Guowei, Guo Moruo, Ma Heng, Tang Lan and others have verified the pre-Qin carving, but they have different views on the exact time. Mr. Tang Lan was identified as the 11th year of Qin Xiangong (374 BC). The original stone is now stored in the Palace Museum
The name of the stone drum is taken from the first two words of the poem, namely, “Wu Che”, “Wu Shui”, “Tian Che”, “Luan Che”, “Wu Yu”, “Zuo Yuan”, “Er Shi”, “Ma Jian”, “Wu Shui”, “Wu Ren”. Its content is the travel, fishing and hunting of the princes, kings and ministers, reflecting the political, economic and cultural conditions of the society at that time. Each poem has eighteen or nine sentences and is a four-character poem
There were rubbings of Stone Drum Wen in the Tang Dynasty, but they were not circulated. At present, it can be seen that the earliest rubbings are the three Song Tuo, namely, the “Pioneer”, “Zhongquan”, and “Houjin”, which were collected in the “Shiguzhai” of Anguo in the Ming Dynasty, and have been circulated in Japan. The Palace Museum has rubbings of the Ming Dynasty and Sun Kehong’s old collection, which was later returned to Zhu Yixuan. After Zhu’s death, his family donated to the Palace Museum in accordance with his will
The rubbings of this book “Stone Drum Texts” are thick and refined, and the hemp paper is dug and mounted. Each half is 28.4 cm in length and 15.5 cm in width, a total of 18 halves, with 6 lines and 5 words in each row. Without the eighth drum, the fifth, seventh and tenth drums have only one or two words in each line. There are 16 sections of postscript written by Weng Fanggang, Wu Yun and Cai Wenwei. The seal “Weng Fanggang Taste”, “Wu Yunping Zhai has read it”, “Wang Guangzhi Seal”, “Huang Heting’s income after the age of 47” and other collection seals are 130. Rubbings have red lettering in front of each drum. According to Weng Fanggang, they are written by Sun Kehong. There are two copies of the rubbings: the first is the rubbings of the “Shi Gu Wen Yin Xun”, a total of 20 copies, half open in the front, two lines of 5 characters, and the phonetic training 19 in the middle, 10 lines in each row, 13 characters in each line. During the period of the Zhiyuan Dynasty, the Pandi Book was carved by Mao Liang and sealed by two sides; The second is the ink script of “Zhou Boqi’s Essay on Stone Drum”, which is 13 in total, with 6 lines in each row and 5 words in each row. There is an inscription in small script on the front page, and there are 26 seals such as “Zhou Lang” and “An Yuanzhong”
The words “Li”, “Huang Silk”, “Di Xian” and other words of the drum in this “Luan Che” are undamaged, while the words “Yi” still exist for the most part, and the words “zai” of the drum “Qiu Che Zai Dao” in “Luan Che” still exist. Approved by Mr. Tang Lan and Mr. Ma Ziyun, it was developed in the early Ming Dynasty
The characters in Stone Drum Wen are large seal characters with unique body features and ancient, lush and simple calligraphy. The Shuduan by Zhang Huaiguan of the Tang Dynasty said: “The body image is outstanding, which is different from the ancient times. The pearl jade falls and the tassel group floats.”
There are many rubbings, and the “Tianyi Pavilion” carved by Ruan Yuan and Zhang Yanchang is the best
At the moment, it is recorded in Ouyang Xiu of the Song Dynasty’s “Collection of Ancient Records Postscript”, Dong Xuan’s “Guangchuan Book Postscript”, Chen Si’s “Treasure Carving Series”, Yang Shen’s “Ancient Essays on Gold and Stone” in the Ming Dynasty, Gu Yanwu’s “Records on Gold and Stone Characters” in the Qing Dynasty, Zhang Yansheng’s “Record of Good Book Steles”, Yang Zhenfang’s “Record of Steles” and other books. Guo Moruo has Research on Stone Drum.
