“Baqiao” is located on the Bahe River in the east of Xi’an City, which is the only way to Luoyang in the east. The ancients often bid farewell here, and the allusion of “Baqiao Broken Willow” in Tang poetry is derived from it
Wu Wei’s picture is not a realistic one, but a farewell one. The picture depicts the scene of severe winter, with snow on the rocks and bleak trees. Travelers are passing through a narrow wooden bridge. The author uses a side-front recumbent pen to outline the rocks, with rough lines, sharp strokes and sharp edges.
