[Wang Ge’s Overlooking Map Axis]
The Overlooking Map Axis of the River Pavilion, made by Wang Ge in the Ming Dynasty, is made of silk, colored, 143.2 cm vertically and 229 cm horizontally
The regular script on the lower right corner of this picture reads: “Written by Wang Ge”
This picture shows the landscape of colored people. The water and clouds of the river are boundless. There is a pavilion near the bank. A person on the pavilion looks out to the left of the river. There are vases, incense burners and fruit plates on the table in front of them. Two children stand by. A child lights candles in the room, and a child comes with a box. At the waterside in front of the pavilion, there are big rocks, reeds, small boats and one person lying in the boat, pines and cypresses on the rocks, and trees on the cliffs behind the rocks. On the other side of the river, there are mountains, houses, temple towers, a city gate and a female wall around the mountain, which are rounded into a circle. More than 20 boats and boats are parked on the shore, and the distant mountains are hidden in the sea of clouds
The painted pavilions are more delicate and beautiful by drawing on the realistic style of the delicate body of the Southern Song Dynasty. The tree-stone mountain cliff is carved with a horse’s axe, and the water lines are traced with ink lines. The painting method is exquisite
This picture bears the tripartite marks of “Hongzhi” and “Treasure of Guangyun”.
