Lin Liang is famous for his paintings of flowers and birds. Most of his subjects are wild birds, such as goshawks, wild geese, jackdaws, sparrows, golden pheasants, and magpies. He also likes to paint the gathering scene of birds. There are many kinds of birds, different moods, and very rich in natural charm. This long scroll is the giant structure of bird collection
The face painting opens with three sparrows, spreading their wings and flying to the jungle. There are kingfishers and orioles chirping in front of the branches, which seems to show welcome. Into the forest, the branches are interlaced, the white head is singing in pairs on the branches, the mountain magpie and the mountain partridge are singing in unison, and the little titmouse is resting on the branches. Deep in the dense forest, there are broad-leaved shrubs and thick bamboo bushes, including jackdaws, wagtails, sparrows, Pulsatillas, quails, and so on. They sing, play and chase in pairs. Then a few old pine trees with dense coniferous leaves slanted out. Dozens of turtledoves were active here. There was a family reunion atmosphere. However, there was a hawk peeping in the depths of the pine forest, adding a bit of killing to the peace. At the end, there is a pair of cormorants foraging on the water, two crows wading through the water, and another kingfisher flying among the reeds. The boundary becomes empty and relaxed again
The layout of the work adopts the structural method of plane scattered points, which changes shape step by step, unfolds layer by layer, alternates density, and combines dynamic and static. The birds are dynamic and lifelike, with different conditions, crisscross branches and leaves, mixed but not disordered. The old trees and dead branches and leaves have shown a bleak autumn. However, the lively nature of the birds makes the jungle still full of vitality
The painting method of this drawing is mainly water and ink, with light color. Birds and birds hook and dye each other, work and write together, wash and refine accurately, and the pen is simple and complete. The brushwood uses freehand brushwork, but it is also generous and does not deviate from the rules. The whole picture is magnificent and full of scenes. It is a masterpiece of Lin Liang.
