The inscription on the fan page reads: “The frost falls on the flat river and ripples the shallow sand, and the red maples reflect the silver reeds. The mid-sky has passed through the third watch of the month, and the river is suitable for August Cha. On the winter day of Gengxu, Lu Zhi drew a picture of thinking of foolishness.” The seal of “Shu” and “Ping” is printed in the red ink. “Gengxu” was the twenty-ninth year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty (1550), when Lu Zhi was 55 years old
The composition of this picture is similar to that of Ni Zan of the Yuan Dynasty. The painting rules of mountains and trees are completely the style of Lu Zhi’s mature painting art. The mountains and stones are beautifully painted, mainly with blue and ochre, and less chapped; The leaves are dotted with red and green, and the strokes are nimble, showing the vitality of the trees
