[Wu Bin’s Painting Axis of Thousands of Rocks and Gullies]

The Painting Axis of Thousands of Rocks and Gullies, Ming Dynasty, Wu Bin’s painting, damask, color setting, 170.5 cm vertically and 46.7 cm horizontally
This picture reads from itself: “Thousands of rock springs are falling, and thousands of ravine trees are lingering. Wu Bin.”
The picture depicts thousands of rocks and gullies, forests and springs, hidden pavilions, secluded scenery, majestic and precipitous scenery, breathtaking and eye-catching. The composition is complicated but not forced, and the strokes are neat and sharp. The rocks are carefully scratched and stained with light ink, highlighting the back of the mountains and the rugged terrain. The clouds in the picture are scattered between the overlapping peaks, and the front and back layers of the branches and leaves of the trees in the mountains are separated by the shades of ink, so that the whole picture has a rich three-dimensional sense
The History of Painting Conference said that Wu Bin: “Be good at landscapes, never imitate the ancient, and all describe the real scenery.” In fact, the landscapes in Wu Bin’s paintings are still affected by ancient paintings, but their realm mainly comes from the wonders of his travels around the world, combined with imagination. The author’s paintings can break away from the stereotype of the ancients, and are deeply influenced by the natural landscape. Therefore, the landscape painting world at the end of the Ming Dynasty is very different and unique.
