Statue of Sakyamuni

[Statue of Sakyamuni]

The bronze statue of Sakyamuni, in the second year of the Yuan Dynasty (1336), was 21 cm high and 15.8 cm wide
It looks like a high bun, with white hair between the eyebrows, low eyebrows and eyes, sharp nose, big ears, wearing a cassock with the right shoulder bare, the left hand practicing meditation, the right hand touching the ground, and sitting on a reclining lotus seat with folded hands. The inscription on the back of the seat reads: “The Buddhist nun Zhiwei Lai Ding Nanzhong Renguizhong Renzhizhong Renshou Xin dependents, Yang’s Shan Qi and his family of good dependents cast the Sakyamuni Buddha’s Nanwu Buddhas, who are protected by the stars, are blessed with the eternal life of this world. The third birthday of the third child to the August of the second year of the Yuan Dynasty.”
There are few gold and bronze Buddha statues in the Yuan Dynasty, which have the characteristics of typical “Sanskrit” statues, and are valuable data for the study of Buddhist statues in the Yuan Dynasty.
