In his life, Zhao Mengfu wrote “Thousand Characters” in various calligraphic styles for many times, and more than one cursive work has survived. By contrast, this painting is crisp and tough, and its skill is skillful. However, the stippling is slightly monotonous, and there are many hard and steep strokes. The knot characters are also less empty and soft, and there are more Zhangcao postures. An Qi of the Qing Dynasty commented: “This book is mellow, with a sharp turning point and a cursive composition. Although it is very different from what we have seen in the past, it is a change of writing style. The reviewer said that Wen Min has high talent and profound learning, and there is no one who is not divine. This volume is good.”
This volume was once hidden in the Qianlong Palace of the Qing Dynasty. “Moyuan Huiguan”, “Shiqu Treasure Collection”, “Selected Learning Studio Calligraphy and Painting Catalogue” and other records.
