[Eight square plates of “Yang Maozao” red waterfall view]

Eight square plates of “Yang Maozao” red waterfall view, Yuan Dynasty, 2.6 cm high, 17.8 cm in diameter. The old collection of the Qing Palace
The plate is octagonal, the inner wall is octagonal, and three kinds of brocade patterns are carved to show the different spaces of heaven, water and earth. A pavilion is carved on the brocade floor, and the pines stand upright beside the pavilion. An old man is standing on the curved sill, overlooking the waterfalls in front of the mountain, and there is one attendant behind and inside the pavilion. The rim of the dish is carved with a pattern of flowers. The bottom of the plate is painted with black paint, and the foot is carved with a knife filled with gold in the six characters of “Da Ming Xuan De Nian System”, which is carved at the back. On the left side of the foot: “Yang Mao Zao” needle book is indistinctly visible, which is the standard style of Yang Mao’s style. During the Xuande period of the Ming Dynasty, there was a phenomenon of changing and covering the carved lacquer of the previous generation, which was recorded in the “Scenery of the Imperial Capital” co-authored by Liu Dong and Yu Yizheng of the Ming Dynasty
The carved lacquer works of Yang Mao and Zhang Cheng mostly focus on flowers and landscape characters. The works with landscape characters as the subject matter are characterized by sparse, spacious and far-reaching pictures, and highlight the activities of the characters, with extremely delicate expression techniques. These works are all decorated with geometric patterns, and three kinds of patterns are used to represent the sky, water patterns and the ground respectively. The sky brocade uses a single line that turns back, similar to narrow and long echo lines, like thin clouds floating in the sky; The water brocade uses smooth curves, like undulating waves; The local brocade is carved with multiple petal-shaped flowers in diagonal squares or squares, such as flowers. The overall style of this disc is the same as the above characteristics. This plate has exquisite carving, sophisticated knife technique and smooth grinding. It is a masterpiece of lacquer carving in the Yuan Dynasty
