The plate is open, with oblique straight wall and round foot. White glaze is applied inside and outside, and there is no glaze at the mouth. The outer wall is embossed with three-layer lotus petal pattern, which has a strong three-dimensional sense. The bowl is carved with lotus patterns. The lines of the patterns are simple and smooth. The patterns are indistinct against the white glaze
The covering firing method is a kind of firing process adopted by Ding Kiln in the late Northern Song Dynasty to increase the firing quantity of the kilns. However, this firing process will result in no glaze around the mouth of the utensils, forming the so-called “awn mouth”. This utensil reflects this firing process
