Yaozhou kiln blue-glaze printing bowl for children playing with lotus pattern, Song Dynasty, height 4.5 cm, caliber 14.3 cm, foot diameter 3.3 cm
The bowl is skimmed, the abdominal wall is inclined, the feet are low, and the feet are stained with kiln slag. The whole body is painted with blue glaze. A bunch of lotus flowers and four children are printed in the bowl. The four children hold a lotus flower respectively, and their bodies are playing in different positions
The motifs of this bowl of baby drama capture the main characteristics of the children’s body shape, and vividly depict their childish features and chubby body shape with the washed outline
The celadon decoration theme of Yaozhou kiln in the Song Dynasty is rich and varied, including plants, animals, people and religious themes. The subject matter of the characters is more common with baby play patterns. Some naked children play in flowers and leaves, some crawl and pull branches, some climb trees and break flowers, some reindeer drive ducks, and some pick lotus with balls
There are many printed pottery models unearthed in the Yaozhou Kiln site, and the patterns engraved on them are worn out due to repeated use, which proves that this decorative technique was widely used at that time.
