[Jade Peacock Flower Ornament]

Jade Peacock Flower Ornament, Song Dynasty, 7.6 cm long, 3.8 cm wide. The old collection of the Qing Palace
The ornamental jade is blue and white, with ochre spots. It is a semicircular piece of jade, on which a peacock holding flower pattern is carved. The main part of the design is peacock. The peacock looks back, tails, spreads its wings, and holds flower branches in its mouth. There are two flowers on the branches, with different varieties
Most of the flower-and-bird jade articles have been unearthed in the archaeological excavations of the Song, Liao and Jin dynasties. Among them, there are many bird wings with one extended and the other folded down. This kind of flower-and-bird jade ornament is a popular style in the Song Dynasty. A peacock-shaped jade hair ornament was unearthed from the sarcophagus tomb in Fangshan, Beijing. The tail of the peacock has a half-moon-shaped hollow hole, which is the same as the performance of the tail of the peacock in this work. This work is more exquisite than the general flower and bird jade pendant of the Song Dynasty. According to its shape, it may be a kind of inlay.
