[Yueyao Begonia Cup]
Yueyao Begonia Cup, Tang Dynasty, caliber 13.2-8.2 cm, foot diameter 5.8 cm, height 6.6 cm
The rim of the cup and the shape of the cup body are flexible, just like the begonia blossom, the cup foot is high, and the cup is left out. This shape is derived from the Sassanian gold and silver ware “multi curved long cup”, which has a strong Western style. After this style was introduced into China, both northern and southern porcelain kilns were fired, which became a popular style in the Tang Dynasty
Yue kiln celadon represented the highest level of the southern porcelain industry in the Tang Dynasty. The body of this cup is fine and the glaze layer is uniform, reflecting the level of porcelain firing at that time.
