The tile is the top part of the tube tile in ancient Chinese architecture, and is a building component that combines practicality and decoration. According to the differentiation of decorative patterns, the tiles of the Han Dynasty are basically divided into three categories, namely, image tile, pattern tile and text tile. Among them, the text tile is the most characteristic of the times in the Han Dynasty, and its contents include the words of auspicious prayer, such as “Eternal bliss”, “Eternal bliss”, “Eternal bliss”, “Prosperity”, “Eternal bliss”, “Eternal bliss”, “Longevity”, “Longevity”, “Eternal bliss”, and “Eternal bliss”, as well as the names of palace, cemetery, Cangyu, and private houses, such as “Changling Dongdang”, “Changling Xidang”, and “Tomb”. The majority of the characters in the tile are in Yangwen, and the number of characters varies from one to dozens
Huang Yi’s bibliography of small Penglai Pavilion. Many scholars in the Qing Dynasty also included tile dang into the scope of epigraphy research and exchanged views with each other. For example, Wang Chang’s “Collection of Jinshi” included a total of 33 kinds of tile dang characters in the Han Dynasty after the inscription on the Han painting. The same is true of Huang Yi. In his “The Golden Stone Catalogue of the Xiaopenglai Pavilion”, he not only listed 37 kinds of Han Dynasty text tiles such as “Changle Palace Tiles” in the “Han Stone Carving” chapter, but also placed them before the Eastern Han Dynasty steles to fully display the development of the Han Dynasty’s “seal script”, “official script” and “eight points”
