The Stone Man is located in two four-corner pavilions in front of Zhongyue Temple at the southern foot of Mount Song in Dengfeng, Henan. Only one official script “horse” is carved on the crown. The stone man is also known as Weng Zhong. This pair of stone figures, carved in the early years of the Eastern Han Dynasty (114-120 years), is the earliest existing stone Wengzhong in China. “Weng Zhong” is from the Qin Dynasty. His surname is Ruan and his name is Weng Zhong. It is said that he is one foot three feet tall. He is born with divine power and extraordinary bravery. After Qin was merged into the Six Kingdoms, he was appointed General Lintao by the First Emperor of Qin to guard the area of Taohe River in today’s Gansu Province, which shocked the Huns. After his death, Qin Shihuang cast a bronze statue for him and placed it in the square of Xianyang Palace. Sima Zhen’s Suo Yin said, “Each weighs a thousand stones, sits two zhang high, and is called Weng Zhong.” The Huns were all impressed when they saw it. So later generations called the bronze or stone man standing in front of the palace temple and the tomb “Weng Zhong”. It can be seen that Weng Zhong in front of the tomb began in the Qin Dynasty
