Portrait stone of Guo Jifei’s tomb door (right), East Han Dynasty, 124 cm high and 49 cm wide
This portrait stone is a pair with another portrait stone on the door of the tomb of Princess Guo Ji, which is hidden in the Palace Museum. This is on the right. The upper part of the door leaf is a rosefinch, the middle part is a shop head ring, and the lower part is a basalt. The design of the door leaf adopts the method of removing the ground and shallow relief. First, the stone is polished smooth, the image outline is drawn with ink lines, and then the remaining white of the image is removed, so as to highlight the image itself
There are more than 10 pieces of the place name of Xihe in the stone tombs of Han Dynasty in Shanxi and northern Shaanxi. Among them, the Guo surname includes “Guo Jifei”, “Guo Zhongli”, “Guo Zhiwen”, “Guo’s wife”, etc., while “Guo Wenzhong of Xihe” is recorded in “The Book of Han Dynasty • The Biography of the Ranger”, and “The Book of the Later Han Dynasty” also has the record of “Guo Tai, a yellow towel thief, originated in the Baibo Valley of Xihe”. It is speculated that the surname Guo may be the name of a famous local family. The door leaf was unearthed in Lishi, Shanxi Province around 1920. After being transported to Beijing by antique dealers, it was purchased by the Chinese Studies Department of Peking University at that time and then included in the Palace Museum
