The cup is made of thick wood with oval mouth, arc wall, flat bottom and square ears. The inside of the vessel is painted with red paint, and the side is painted with black paint. It is decorated with vortex patterns between deformed bird head patterns. The two-ear ochre paint is used to paint the triangular cirrus and vortex patterns among the deformed bird head patterns. The outer wall of the cup is ochre paint, without grain decoration
This cup was unearthed in the Warring States Chu Tomb, No. 354, Yutai Mountain, Jiangling, Jingzhou. Ear cup is a kind of drinking utensils that began to appear in the Spring and Autumn Period. From the unearthed situation, the square ear cup is more primitive than the round ear cup. It appeared earlier in the Spring and Autumn Period, increased in number in the Warring States Period, and disappeared in the Han Dynasty. This ear cup is decorated with the deformed bird head pattern, which is the most characteristic decorative pattern in the Warring States lacquer ware.
