Yuan Shikai appointedZhan Tianyouas the chief engineer of the Beijing Zhangjiakou Railway Bureau (and later the chief office of the Beijing Zhangjiakou Railway Bureau) to build the Beijing Zhangjiakou Railway after the Qing government ruled out the obstruction of colonialists such as Britain and Russia
The Beijing Zhangjiakou Railway is the first railway in China that Zhan Tianyou presided over and took charge of. It connects Fengtai District, Beijing, and passes through Badaling, Juyongguan, Shacheng, Xuanhua and other places to Zhangjiakou, Hebei, with a total length of about 200 kilometers. It was started in September 1905 and completed in 1909
