On February 5, 1904, when Japan decided to break off diplomatic relations with Russia, the Emperor of Japan instructed the start of military operations. At 0:00 on February 6, the commander of the Japanese Joint Fleet, Hirohiro Tohoku, summoned his subordinate commanders to convey the Emperor’s decision, and ordered the entire fleet to go to the Yellow Sea to attack the Russian ships at Lushun and Incheon (Kikupo) respectively

 

From the outbreak of the war to the end of July 1904, the defense of Lushun Fortress was strengthened. The number of defenders increased to 40000, with 646 guns and 62 machine guns. The navy has 38 warships. However, the material reserves are insufficient to cope with the long-term siege. For example, there are only 400 rounds per gun. The fortifications are not strong and the disguise is not tight

 

On August 7, 1904, the Japanese army launched an attack. First capture the commanding heights of the frontier outside the fortress&mdash& mdash; Big Gushan and Small Gushan. The Japanese army used 12 battalions against the Russian army with 3 battalions. The two sides fought fiercely for the two tactical points for four days. Finally, the highland fell into the hands of the Japanese army. On August 19, 1904, the Japanese army launched the first strong attack on the fortress, raiding day and night, and the two sides fought fiercely until August 24

 

As early as August 1904, after the Japanese army was defeated in its first strong attack on Lushun, it strengthened the strength of the Third Army, bringing in 11 inch siege guns. Artillery positions and parallel trenches were built around Lushun to advance the Russian defense fortifications step by step. On December 15, 1904, Russia called it Lvshun Russian Army Defense“ Soul” General Kondrachenko was killed. On January 2, 1905, Russia formally signed the surrender instrument
