The photographer of this group of photos is William Hervie Dobson, a Presbyterian missionary doctor. He was born in Vanland, southern New Jersey, the United States in 1870. In 1897, he came to Yangjiang, Guangdong Province by the Presbyterian Church to engage in medical missionary work. After 40 years, he retired in 1940 and returned to China, and died in 1965. All the pictures in this post are from Du Busen’s private album, including 48 photos of Yangjiang, which are not dated. However, according to the analysis of the photos, these photos were reflected from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China
