In 1863, an Englishman named Bao La came to China across the sea to work in Tianjin, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Ningbo. During the four years of working in the Tax Department of Zhejiang Customs in Ningbo, Bao La has made great achievements in his work and life. Qing’an Guild Hall, namely Tianhou Palace, is located on the east bank of Sanjiangkou, Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, hence its name“ Yongdong Tianhou Palace”. It was built in the third year of Xianfeng (1853), and was donated by the northern shipping merchants in Yongbu. It is not only a hall for worshiping Queen Mother, but also a place for gathering in the industry.
