The photographer (collector) of this group of photos is Edward· Bondru. Edward· Bonsdoro (1843-1924), an Englishman, graduated from Harvard University and was appointed by Robert Middleot, the tax department of the General Administration of Customs and Excise in the late Qing Dynasty; At the invitation of Hurd, he worked in China from 1868 to 1908 and served as the customs directors of Fuzhou and Ningbo. During his stay in China, Eduardo Bonsdru collected and took a large number of photos. The Yanjing Library of Harvard University in the United States kept more than 560 of his photos, which were purchased from his wife in 1949. The photos have a wide range of contents, involving the society, scenery, humanities, etc. of the late Qing Dynasty. They are clear and of good quality, and many of them are classics
