George· Ernest· George Ernest Morrison (February 4, 1862 – May 30, 1920), an Australian born Scot, graduated from Edinburgh University in 1887 with a doctor’s degree. He was the chief correspondent of The Times in China (1897-1912) and political adviser of the President of the Republic of China (1912-1920). He was a traveler and politician who had close relationship with modern China, and lived in China for more than 20 years
Morrison and his adventurous character came to China in 1983. In 1894, Morrison left Shanghai for a land hiking trip to Yangon. In 1896, he traveled from Bangkok to Kunming, and the next year he traveled across the three eastern provinces. In 1897, Morrison became a special correspondent of The Times in China. In more than 20 years of journalist career, Morrison has experienced this great change in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, leaving many precious historical images
In 1908, Morrison came to Yunnan again, went deep into Simao and other ethnic minority settlements, and left many images. The old photos of Simao in this group were taken by him at that time
