Chinese Images Taken by Mei Yinhua in 1906-1912 (I)

This group of old photos is from the album “Mei Yinhua’s Images of China at the Beginning of the 20th Century”. This group of photos is an unusual group of glass slides, which were taken by Michel De Maynard, a French missionary of Franciscans. This series contains 230 images, which were shot in 1906-1912. Some of the images involve the 1911 Revolution. These precious images record the fierce changes in late Qing China

This series mainly records the situation in northern China at that time, including Mei Yinhua’s daily life in Shaanxi from 1910 to 1911

西安五星街教堂位于西安五星街，故称五星街教堂，又称天主教西安南堂全名为圣方济各主教座堂，是天主教西安总教区的总堂及主教府。南堂始建于清康熙五十四年（1716年），是由意大利籍会士陕西天主教第二任主教兰溪（山陕区分治前）于1716—1727年间，派意大利籍传教士马戴弟主持西安教务时，在城内土地庙什字购地筑院建堂的，成后即为天主教陕西总堂。

崇文塔，位于陕西省西咸新区泾河新城崇文塔景区内，巍然矗立于泾河北岸，建于明代万历十九年（1591年），由泾阳人尚书李世达倡导主持，南京镇江工匠官施工所建，是中国最高砖塔。崇文塔属楼阁式砖塔，平面呈八角形，共十三层，总高度87.218米。
