“Mei Yinhua’s Images of China in the Early Twentieth Century” was shot in 1906-1912. The full album is presented in the form of glass slides, which is unique. This series of pictures is from the Getty Institute

The Chinese Images of Mei Yinhua in the Early Twentieth Century was shot by Michel DeMaynard, a French missionary of the Franciscans. At present, the series collected by the editor consists of 230 images, some of which involve the 1911 Revolution. These precious images record the fierce changes in China in the late Qing Dynasty. This series mainly records the situation in northern China at that time, and also includes Mei Yinhua’s daily life in Shaanxi from 1910 to 1911. The themes mainly include scenery, architecture, cultural relics, formal and informal portraits, scenes of daily life, religions and cultural customs, etc
