The Sino Japanese War of 1894-1895: Taking Dalian Bay lightly (1)-China Archive

This post is a real war photo taken by Japanese military reporters in the same year. It mainly reflects the battlefield situation of Japan’s light victory over Dalian Bay in the Sino Japanese War of 1894. The photo is mainly taken from Japanese war pictorials issued in that year, such as the Japanese Qing War Photo by the photo class of the Land Survey Department of the Headquarters of the Japanese Army Staff, and the Japanese war pictorials such as the Meiji 278 Battle Photo by Kazui Zmin

The Dalian Bay is arching from left to right, facing the bay in the southeast, with three mountain islands in front of it. In the center of the bay, there are two peninsula protruding into the bay, Monk Island on the left, three forts on the east, middle and west coasts, Laolong Island on the right, and two forts on the old dragon head and Huangshan coast. On the back road, a Xujiashan land fort was built

日军第一师团攻占金州的第二天，便乘势分三路向大连湾发动了进攻，守将赵怀业未战而逃往旅顺，除老龙头炮台稍作抵抗外，余皆弃台而走，日军轻取大连湾，致使旅顺口失去后路防御。

时人指出：“方倭将至时，我金州、大连湾储备军械自勇丁配执兵抢以外，有海岸、行营两种炮凡一百二十余尊，大小炮弹二百四十六万余颗，而自沪局运至行营快炮封尚未启，华厂自制枪并德国枪六百数十杆，枪弹三千三百八十一万数千颗；及马匹行帐诸式军需，所蓄甚厚。严城巨防，特两日间竟委之去。大连湾有海军码头,倭人据之,其大小军资从此得登岸地转输前敌，而辽东之祸愈烈矣。
