- Description:. The “turtle” of Liangzhu culture is often shaped from a folded “crown”, which is a jade comb back of Liangzhu nobles. Its shape implies “a black bird that can pass through the sky”. It is speculated that the Emperor Qianlong did not know the age and function of these two jade tortoises, but he ordered the Office of the Palace to prepare wooden boxes in the shape of books for them, and mounted imperial calligraphy and paintings in the boxes
