As one of the forty sceneries of the Old Summer Palace, “The Moon Opened and Clouds Opened” is the first place where Emperor Qianlong and his grandfather Emperor Kangxi met in March of the sixty first year of Kangxi’s reign (1722), so it is of great significance. Yu Province’s “Guxi Changchen” is based on the poetic map drawn by Emperor Gaozong of the Qing Dynasty, and also chooses to depict the scene of the blooming peonies “carving out the moon and opening the clouds”.
