Lengmei, who was born in Jiaozhou and named Jichen, was a court painter from Kangxi to Qianlong, representing the typical style and features of magnificent palace painting in the Qing Dynasty. This painting is based on Li Bai’s “Preface to the Peach and Plum Garden at the Spring Night Feast” as a composition reference. It depicts a bright moon hanging in the night sky in a courtyard with flowers in full bloom, several scholars drinking and writing around the stone table, and several servants serving. It leads to the theme of instant gratification. The so-called beautiful scenery on good days, expressing one’s feelings by candlelight, is a great pleasure in life. The painting style is rigorous and exquisite, which is the representative of the exquisite and beautiful style of the Qing Dynasty Painting Academy.
