  • Description:
The title of this painting imitates Ni Zan. Originally, it was intended to imitate Ni Zan’s “Mountain Shadows and Gullies” hidden by Chen Yongnian. However, because there was no manuscript left, it was changed to study Juran’s “After the Snow in the Mountain Pass” to make this picture, which was based on tracing back to Ni Zan’s style, supplemented by imagination. This work is bold, novel and ingenious. It breaks through the past archaic practices, and skillfully combines the folding belt chapping and the linen chapping to form clear rocks with Ni Zan style and thick rocks with Huang Gongwang style. It can be said to be a comprehensive work of melting Ni Zan and Huang Gongwang styles. Chen Jiru pointed out in the middle of the postscript that this picture combines the styles of Dong Yuan, Juran and Ni Zan, which can be called epistemology.
