The pen pot is made of bamboo carving. The main picture is that Dharma is sitting on the Songjian Stone with his knees crossed. Two people in front of him visit Dharma. It may be a popular novel from the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, and the plot of “Shaolin Temple Visiting Teachers” in Zhu Kaitai’s “Dharma’s Birth”. This bamboo carving is a typical style of Jiading Bamboo Carving, which makes good use of deep, shallow relief and carving techniques, and uses the color difference texture between different levels of bamboo itself to convey the spatial levels.
