Description:
Wall sherd of a ceramic vessel with appliqué decoration. The circumferences of the sherd suggests that this is a fragment of the neck of a vessel. The outside of the sherd is decorated with parallel running horizontal lines and with an appliqué showing the head and upper body of a gandharva. Gandharvas are male nature spirits said to have superb musical skills. The one depicted here holds a garland and wears large round earrings, bracelets and a necklace. The upper body is naked, the hair in a topknot.
